Refunds and Cancellations
Last updated 28 October 2026
This applies to seats paid in the app (a deposit or the full price). The rules for each session, including its cancellation deadline, are shown on the session page before you book and in the cancel dialog.
In short. Cancel before the deadline and your price comes back. Cancel later and it comes back only if someone from the waitlist takes your seat. If the host or we cancel the date, everything comes back, booking fee included.
When you cancel
| When | What comes back |
|---|---|
| Within 10 minutes of booking, or before the session's free-cancellation deadline (usually 24 hours before the start) | The price or deposit you paid. The €0.99 booking fee is kept. |
| After the deadline | Nothing straight away. The price comes back if someone from the waitlist takes and pays for your seat. The booking fee is kept. |
| Because someone you blocked has booked the same session | Treated as cancelling before the deadline, whenever you cancel. |
| You switched to "Friends only" and leave a Singles session you had booked | Counted as cancelling before the deadline (once every 30 days). |
| You do not show up without cancelling | Nothing. |
When the session changes or does not happen
Everything you paid comes back, booking fee included, when:
- the host cancels the date, or Rituals cancels it;
- a surf, kite, windsurf or SUP session is called off by the host because of the conditions;
- the date is cancelled because too few people booked;
- the host declines your request or does not answer it in time;
- your payment went through after your seat had already been released, or you were charged more than once.
Surf, kite, windsurf and SUP
These sessions depend on the forecast, which the app follows for the session's spot. If, after you booked, the forecast turns unsuitable, the host moves the date, or the host has not confirmed in time that the session goes ahead, you can leave even after the deadline and get everything back, booking fee included. Before the deadline the usual rule applies: the price comes back and the booking fee is kept.
Waitlists
When you join the waitlist of a session paid in the app, you save a card. If a seat opens for you, we charge that card straight away and you are in; you get a notification. If your bank asks you to confirm the payment, or it fails, we hold the seat for 30 minutes so you can pay in the app; after that it goes to the next person. Leaving the waitlist costs nothing.
Deposits
For sessions with a deposit, you pay the rest to the host at the venue. The deposit follows the rules above. Anything you pay the host directly is between you and the host.
How and when you get the money
- Refunds go back to the card or wallet you paid with, automatically. Your bank usually shows them within 5 to 10 working days.
- Once a refund is sent, the session page and your Plans show it.
- If a refund to your card fails twice, we take it over by hand and contact you.
- If something went wrong at a session (it did not take place as described, or you were treated badly), write to hello@rituals.team. We look at each case and may refund you in part or in full.
Sessions not paid in the app
Free, shared-cost and pay-on-site sessions involve no payment in the app; you can cancel your seat in the app until the session starts (up to five cancellations an hour), and any money you pay the host or share with the crew is between you.
The Rituals Pass
The Pass is bought and renewed through the App Store or Google Play. Cancel in your store subscriptions; refunds are handled by Apple or Google under their policies. See the Terms.
Withdrawal right
A seat at a session on a specific date is a leisure service for a specific date, for which EU and Portuguese law does not give a 14-day right of withdrawal. These cancellation rules apply instead, and your other rights as a consumer are not affected.
